LIV Golf announces game-changing partnership with Google Cloud and PMY Group

LIV Golf, the golf tour backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), has announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud, the leading cloud computing service, and technology solutions company PMY Group.

In a multi-year partnership, Google Cloud will serve as the official technology partner for the LIV Golf circuit.

LIV Golf is set to introduce a series of advancements aimed at elevating fan engagement, including real-time data and statistics streaming, innovative course and event mapping, and customisable experiences for fans and broadcast viewers alike.

The collaboration between LIV Golf and Google Cloud is expected to redefine the way fans interact with the sport, both on and off the golf course. Through personalised engagement initiatives, the partnership aims to deliver a unique and immersive experience for golf enthusiasts worldwide.

One of the key highlights of this partnership is the introduction of the ‘Any Shot, Any Time’ feature, slated for release in mid-2024 on the LIV Golf Plus platform. This feature promises to change live broadcast experiences by allowing fans to choose which golfers, teams or groups they want to follow at any given moment. Additionally, fans will have access to searchable and customisable on-demand highlight reels from any round of any LIV tournament.

LIV Golf will launch a Companion App powered by Google Cloud’s AI technologies, offering fans a host of cutting-edge features such as 3D aerial overviews of each venue, advanced real-time statistics, virtual caddy views and customized competition recaps. The app is set to debut later this year.

“LIV Golf has been associated with innovation from its inception,” said Matt Renner, President of Google Cloud.

“As the technology partner of choice for LIV and other PMY clients, we are thrilled to help them create more engaging fan experiences with our generative AI tools and cloud platform.”

Australian golf legend Greg Norman, who is Commissioner and Chief Executive of LIV Golf, echoed Renner’s sentiments, stating, “This is a game changer for golf and most importantly, for the fans. We are proud to have Google Cloud on board as a technology partner of LIV Golf as we accelerate our league’s digital transformation with the pre-eminent brand in this space.

“Working with Google Cloud and other world-class partners, our advanced approach to technology and innovation will revolutionise golf as we bring the sport into the future.”

Google Cloud boasts partnerships with various sports organisations globally, including Major League Baseball and the English Football Association, underscoring its commitment to driving innovation in sports technology.

The upcoming LIV Golf League, featuring 14 events across eight countries, promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its blend of elite competition and technological innovation.

With the recent unveiling of the 2024 regular-season calendar, including a historic visit to Las Vegas, the controversial LIV Golf League continues to push boundaries and attract top talent from around the globe.
