Brisbane Lions Launch Institute of Business & Sport Program in Partnership with TAFE Queensland

The Brisbane Lions have announced the launch of the Brisbane Lions Institute of Business & Sport program, with plans to make their Brighton Homes Arena training facility a hub for aspiring sports administrators.

In collaboration with TAFE Queensland, the Institute will offer a dual Diploma of Sport and Diploma of Leadership & Management, providing students with an accredited education pathway deeply integrated with hands-on learning within a professional sporting organisation.

The comprehensive year-long course will grant students unprecedented access to the inner workings of an elite AFL club, with a focus on immersive learning experiences within the Lions’ daily operations. Participants will undertake 100 hours of practical work experience across various club departments, including management, marketing, and media.

The program also offers pathway options for students seeking further studies, including articulated pathways into various university programs such as those offered by Bond University, specializing in sports development, sports management, and business.

The partnership between TAFE Queensland and the Brisbane Lions is a move of mutual benefit, leveraging the strengths of both institutions to create a dynamic educational experience.

For TAFE Queensland, collaborating with a renowned AFL club like the Brisbane Lions provides students with access to real-world sports management scenarios, providing hands-on experiences within a professional sporting environment. Conversely, the Brisbane Lions benefit from TAFE Queensland’s expertise in delivering accredited vocational education, ensuring that the Institute of Business & Sport program aligns with industry standards and equips students with the practical skills necessary for success in the sports administration field.
