CUB’s ‘The Home Game’ Show Nets Over 1 Million Views

Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has released a new AFL show, ‘The Home Game’, giving fans a glimpse into the private world of AFL stars.

The first episode, hosted by comedian Dave Thornton, featured stars Patrick Dangerfield, Tex Walker, and Dyson Heppell, and the series has now notched up more than one million views online, with two episodes released, filmed entirely on Zoom and uploaded on Facebook.

The show saw players go head-to-head with a series of questions and challenges over four rounds on the show, with the winner taking home a Carlton Draught golden pint trophy, along with 10 kegs to donate to their local pub for when they re-open with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

CUB head of content, Jonathon Bernard, said The Home Game is a mixture of Jimmy Fallon and Whose Line Is It Anyway, with a little Carpool Karaoke.

“Everyone is suffering from cabin fever, and for players that’s translating to white line fever,” Bernard said.

“They want to get back on the ground.

“We opened the doors to our favourite stars’ homes for some real behind the scenes play.

“With production largely happening through Zoom, the only difficulty has been helping Jonathan Brown download a green screen background,” he said.

Carlton Draught brand manager, Stephen McWilliams, said the show is the latest extension of the AFL’s decades-old partnership with CUB.

“After suspension of play, we missed our weekly dose of competition,” McWilliams said.

“Home Game hits the right note with both fans and players, with the bonus of helping out some local pubs.

“Our first episode drew in 550,000 views, which was a great result for our in-house production team Clubhouse, who created and pulled together the show in a matter of days,” he said.

Adelaide star, Tex Walker, said it was an enjoyable experience being a guest on the show.

“This was a great show to be on, Carlton Draught knows how to have some fun, going to be hard to beat,” Walker said.
