Porsche Not Joining F1 In 2026

Porsche has announced that it will not be joining the racing series in 2026, with the news coming after talks between the German car manufacturer, owned by Volkswagen, McLaren and Red Bull broke down.

Porsche was reportedly interested in building an engine and potentially acquiring a controlling stake in either McLaren or Red Bull, but negotiations broke down between the parties.

While Formula One is open to new teams and manufacturers joining the circuit in 2025 ahead of the 2026 season, Porsche has declined to participate in the engineering process.

Commenting on their initial interest, Former Volkswagen CEO, Herbert Diess, said: “You need five or 10 years to be among the front runners. In other words, you can only get onboard if you have a major rule change.”

“That means you can decide now to do Formula 1 – or then probably not again for 10 years,” he said.

It is worth noting that Volkswagen’s other major company, Audi, has committed to building an engine as part of the new engineering regulations that will begin in 2026, however, Audi has chosen to partner with Sauber instead.

Volkswagen has also stated that Porsche is interested in F1, however, entering as a manufacturer or engineer will not happen in the near future.
