AFL Records Second Highest Attendance Figures in League History

The AFL has announced that Round 7 registered the second-highest attendance for a single round in AFL history, with 408,433 fans attending matches across the weekend.

This figure is surpassed only by Round 1 earlier in the year, which saw 413,405 attendees.

The ANZAC Round, including the traditional ANZAC Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon, also saw a number of club records broken, including:

  • The highest attended AFL home-and-away round at the MCG of all-time – 292,311 fans across all four matches.
  • The Geelong Cats vs Carlton Blues was Geelong’s highest attended AFL home-and-away home match, with a crowd of 87,775 fans.
  • Essendon Bombers v Collingwood Magpies saw Essendon’s highest-ever ANZAC Day home crowd, with 93,644 fans attending.
  • The highest attendance for a Greater Western Sydney home match at Manuka Oval since 2018, with 13,080 fans attending.

With two attendance records already broken just 2 months into the season, the AFL’s popularity and their ability to successfully engage their fanbase is going from strength-to-strength.
