In a bid to enhance Australia’s credentials as a leading sporting nation, the Albanese Government used its 2024 Federal Budget to announce a $249.7 million upgrade for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
The upgrades aims to provide elite and emerging athletes with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring optimal preparation for international competitions, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The planned development includes a variety of advanced infrastructure designed to meet the diverse needs of high-performance athletes. Key projects encompass an accessible multi-storey accommodation facility tailored for athletes, a versatile multi-sports dome that will allow for all-weather, multi-sport indoor training, and a cutting-edge high-performance training and testing center. These facilities are expected not only to enhance the training environment but also to integrate sophisticated testing and analysis capabilities.
Furthermore, an additional $57.4 million will be allocated to Sport Integrity Australia to maintain the integrity and reputation of sports competitions nationwide.
As Australia prepares to host the 2032 Games, this announcement affirms Australia’s commitment to staying competitive on the world stage.
