HP has announced it has acquired gaming peripheral’s company, HyperX, for USD$425 million (AUD$548 million) from Kingston Technology Company.

The deal sees HP acquire HyperX’s lines of headsets, keyboards, mice, microphones and more gaming peripherals, while leaving out storage products, in an effort to support HP’s strategy to drive growth in its Personal Systems business.

HP CEO and president, Enrique Lores, said: “HyperX is a leader in peripherals whose technology is trusted by gamers around the world and we’re thrilled to welcome their outstanding team to the HP family.”

“We continue to advance our leadership in Personal Systems by modernizing compute experiences and expanding into valuable adjacencies.

“We see significant opportunities in the large and growing peripherals market, and the addition of HyperX to our portfolio will drive new sources of innovation and growth for our business,” Lores said.

Kingston CEO and co-founder, John Tu, said the acquisition will help HyperX succeed at a greater height in the future.

“HyperX products are designed to meet the most rigorous demands of all games, from casual to the most hardcore, giving them a winning edge and helping them stay on top of their game,” Tu said.

“Both of our companies thrive because we focus on our employees and share the same core values and culture.

“David Sun (Kingston co-founder and COO) and I saw the possibilities for the HyperX business and its employees and we both realised that this change brings a brighter future for HyperX,” he said.

HyperX has had a large influence throughout traditional sport and esports partnerships as part of Kingston, after first signing NBA star, Gordon Hayward as a brand ambassador in 2016, leading up to becoming the official gaming headset partner of several NBA stars and the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and the NBA 2K League.
