Comedian and television personality Howie Mandel has joined the Global Gaming League (GGL) as a celebrity team owner.
Mandel’s team, “Howie Do It”, will debut on 29 October in Las Vegas as part of the GGL’s SZN ZERO Match Two, ahead of a global release on YouTube on 12 November.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Mandel, shared: “Gaming is the biggest entertainment platform in the world — bigger than movies, music, and television combined.”
“What the Global Gaming League is building reminds me of the early days of the NFL, WWE, or UFC — but this time there are billions of people ready to join in,” Mandel said.
Global Gaming League Blends Culture and Commerce
Founded by entertainment executive Clinton Sparks, along with partners T-Pain and Jeff Hoffman (co-founder of Priceline), the GGL is positioning itself as an entertainment-first esports league, designed to bridge the commercial gap between live events, celebrity culture, and digital fandom.
The addition of Mandel follows a growing roster of celebrity team owners, including Ne-Yo and Flavor Flav, as the organisation builds a hybrid competition model that blends traditional sports ownership structures with music and influencer marketing.
Sparks said Mandel’s involvement underscores the league’s ambitions to use star-driven ownership to drive audience engagement and brand appeal. “Having Howie join validates everything we’re building,” Sparks said. “He represents creativity, humour, and heart — and he is actually passionate about gaming. The GGL exists to connect cultures, bridge generations, and give everyone a platform to rise.”
Emerging Model for Entertainment Investment
While the GGL remains in its early stages, the property’s commercial structure mirrors that of traditional sports leagues, and offering ownership stakes and content-driven monetisation potential through live broadcasts, merchandising, and partnerships.
GGL chairman, Jeff Hoffman, noted that team ownership carries the same prestige and upside as any pro sports franchise, highlighting the league’s intent to establish long-term commercial viability through sponsorships and brand collaborations.
The league’s live events combine high-production gaming competitions with music performances and fashion integrations.
Mandel was introduced to the GGL through David Nussbaum, founder of Proto Hologram, where Mandel serves as an investor and advisor.
As the GGL readies its next event, industry observers will be watching whether the blend of celebrity ownership, digital competition, and live performance can sustain fan engagement.
