Basketball Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), has launched a specialised suite of wellbeing resources designed specifically for the parents and guardians of aspiring basketballers.
The initiative recognises the critical “support crew” role that families play in an athlete’s journey, providing a strategic framework to manage the unique pressures of the high-performance pathway.
Developed by subject matter experts at the AIS and tailored for the basketball community, the resources address the “guidebook gap” often felt by families navigating elite sport. The rollout follows a series of digital advancements by the organisation, including the LEVEL UP development program and recent mental health e-learning modules.

“These resources are there to help provide clarity, to guide, and to empower parents to support their child, as well as to help coaches effectively work alongside parents,” Bird said.
The toolkit is categorised into key modules that align with the HP 2032+ “Win Well” philosophy. By providing practical strategies, the program aims to reduce burnout and improve the retention of talent across the national pathway.
The resource suite covers eight critical pillars:
Basketball Australia aims to create a an ecosystem that supports long-term athlete health and performance, ultimately benefiting the CommBank Matildas and Socceroos equivalent national teams like the Boomers and Opals.
