Global sports platform DAZN has signed a broadcasting partnership with professional franchise surf racing property Guardians League, securing worldwide free-to-view rights outside of Australia, New Zealand, and China.
Commencing with the Oceania Tour in November and December 2027, the agreement encompasses live event coverage ahead of the league’s planned expansion into the USA and Americas in 2028. The commercial arrangement provides the property with global distribution as it reimagines surf lifesaving as a professional team sport aligned with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Highlighting the value of incorporating the property into DAZN’s ecosystem, CEO of DAZN Group, Shay Segev, said: “DAZN brings fans the most compelling sports from around the world, and Guardians League is an exciting new addition to our global content portfolio.”
“Its innovative format, world-class athletes and spectacular coastal settings have all the ingredients to attract a new generation of fans.
“By making Guardians League available free-to-view on DAZN’s innovative platform, we can introduce surf racing to a global audience and support the series’ growth from day one,” Segev said.
Emphasising on securing an international distribution partner of DAZN’s scale is fundamental to building a global brand, managing director and co-founder of Guardians League, Adrian Tobin, added: “DAZN is the ideal global platform to help us introduce Guardians League and the incredible sport of surf racing to the world.”
“We are creating Guardians League around a simple idea: take some of the world’s best athletes and let them battle it out in one of the most exciting and unpredictable sporting environments on the planet – the surf.
“For the first time, fans will see global stars from swimming, athletics, kayak and surf lifesaving join forces to represent iconic coastal cities.
“The ocean provides the arena, but the athletes, teams, rivalries and coastal communities will provide the stories that we believe can build a passionate global fan base.
“From the outset, our priority has been to make Guardians League as accessible as possible.
“Having the competition available free-to-view through DAZN internationally is hugely important.
“It gives us the opportunity not simply to broadcast Guardians League, but to introduce surf racing and showcase our amazing host beaches to millions of potential new fans.
“Having a global partner of DAZN’s scale alongside us from the beginning is an important part of the Guardians League ambition,” Tobin said.
Launching across Australia and New Zealand with six city-based franchises comprising four male and four female athletes each, Guardians League integrates elite competitors from swimming, athletics, kayaking, and surf lifesaving into head-to-head teams. DAZN will also distribute dedicated lifestyle programming highlighting athletes, rivalries, and host communities.
