Netflix is scaling its investment in professional sports entertainment by partnering with Major League Baseball (MLB) to develop a high-profile scripted drama series centered on the iconic New York Yankees.
The project highlights the streaming giant’s deepening commercial footprint in baseball, extending its multi-faceted relationship beyond live broadcasts and documentaries into premium scripted storytelling.
The production will be spearheaded by Emmy Award winner Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Studios alongside MLB Studios, with writer, director, and producer Josh Wakely developing the creative concept to capture the franchise’s rich historical legacy.
From a commercial perspective, the development underscores Netflix’s broader multi-year rights strategy following its landmark three-year broadcast agreement with MLB spanning the 2026, 2027, and 2028 seasons.
Having already secured streaming rights for marquee fixtures such as Opening Day matchups and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, Netflix is leveraging its expansive digital platform to monetise elite sports intellectual property globally. Netflix aims to capture high-value subscriber growth, enhance brand loyalty, and deepen consumer engagement with international sports audiences.
The creative leadership team features prominent industry figures, with Bateman and Michael Costigan serving as executive producers for Aggregate Studios, alongside Wakely representing Grace: A Storytelling Company, and Nick Trotta managing operations for MLB Studios. Additional executive production backing is provided by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, including Peter Sobiloff, Mike Sobiloff, Sean Mullin, Josh Glick, Daniel Cohan, and Jon Liebman.
While specific plot details, casting announcements, and production timelines remain unconfirmed, the series will draw upon the franchise’s legendary history, spanning multiple eras of championship teams, iconic players, and defining cultural moments.
This scripted venture builds upon Netflix’s growing library of baseball programming produced in collaboration with MLB Studios, which includes acclaimed documentary projects such as The Turnaround and The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox.
