Sports streaming platform, Kayo, will broadcast the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup for free, as the organisation continues to seek a new broadcast rights deal in Australia.
Kayo Freebies will be the only Australian free-to-air broadcast for the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, streaming every match of the tournament this month.
Viewers must register for a Kayo account to access ‘Freebies’ content, including full match replays and exclusive highlights from all 23 matches at the World Cup, without a paid subscription.
Foxtel currently holds the overall Australian rights for major men’s and women’s ICC tournaments as part of a deal with global media rights holder, Disney Star.
The ICC is currently negotiating a new broadcast rights tender in Australia to cover the 2024-31 cycle for men’s tournaments, and the 2024-27 period for women’s events, with interest being shown from media heavyweights, Google and Amazon.
Foxtel is now in the final year of its broadcast rights deal with the ICC, as both traditional Australian free-to-air broadcasters and pay-TV providers are in the running to acquire its Australian rights from 2024.
This announcement comes after the ICC extended their broadcast partnership with Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland.
