Wimbledon Remains with Nine in Major Multi-Year Rights Win

Nine Entertainment has announced a multi-year extension with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), securing the exclusive Australian broadcast rights to The Championships, Wimbledon through to 2029.

Following the conclusion of the Australian Open, the deal cements Nine’s status as the undisputed “Home of Tennis,” holding the rights to all four Grand Slam tournaments simultaneously.

The extension involves Nine’s “Total TV” ecosystem, which mixes free-to-air (9Network), BVOD (9Now), and premium subscription streaming (Stan Sport).

By locking in Wimbledon, Nine ensures a year-round “tennis funnel” that drives high-margin subscriptions to Stan Sport, while maintaining the massive reach required to satisfy blue-chip advertisers on its linear channels.

Commenting on the partnership exxtension, CEO of Nine, Matt Stanton, said: “Wimbledon is one of the most prestigious properties in global sport, and securing its long-term future with Nine is an important outcome for the Group.”

“The extension reflects our disciplined approach to rights investment and our confidence in the enduring value of premium sport delivered at scale,” Stanton said.

Noting the partnership’s scope, managing director of Streaming and Broadcast, Amanda Laing, added: “Our role is to make Wimbledon accessible, immersive and relevant for Australian audiences, wherever and however they choose to watch.”

A Unified Tennis Portfolio

The 2026–2029 rights cycle completes a formidable sports portfolio for the organisation, which has aggressively outbid rivals to own the tennis calendar.

  • The Grand Slam Slam: Nine now holds exclusive rights to the Australian Open (through 2029 in a separate $425 million deal), Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
  • Multi-Platform Delivery: Under the new agreement, key matches remain live and free on the 9Network, while Stan Sport will provide the most comprehensive coverage, including every match live and on-demand.
  • Production Innovation: Nine will continue to utilise the AELTC’s advanced production suite to deliver daily highlights and “mini matches,” tailored for the mobile-first consumption habits of 9Now users.

Commercial Trajectory and Rights Strategy

While the specific financial terms of the Wimbledon extension were not disclosed, industry analysts suggest the deal aligns with Nine’s disciplined investment strategy following its record-breaking 2025 revenue.

The organisation has prioritised tier-one sporting rights that can be amortised across its digital and linear assets.
