Tasmania FC Founding Memberships Soar Past 210,000

The Tasmania Football Club is set to surpass their Founding Membership record by 210,000 this week.

Since its launch on 18 March last year, the club has garnered overwhelming support from Tasmanians and those with ties to the island, showcasing a unifying spirit that resonates from Wynyard to Wollongong, King Island to Kings Cross.

Commenting on the development, consumer business manager, Jesse O’Hara, said: “When we set out to build this club, we hoped that many Tasmanians would get behind us, and they have done so resoundingly.”

For many young Tasmanians, being part of the club transcends mere football fandom, it outlines pride and identity.

19-year-old founding member, Lochie Daveym, shared: “To be able to see your own state play in the premier competition of the sport is an unreal achievement.”

“It’s fantastic to travel just across to Mac Point to watch a game and see others wearing the Tassie map on their jumper,” Daveym said.

Highlighting the significance of the club’s growing member base among youth, as it bodes well for the future, CEO of the Devils, Brendon Gale, added: “Our understanding of the member base enables us to connect meaningfully with all our members.”

“The considerable representation of young Tasmanians and the balance of male and female Founding Members is encouraging. This engagement signifies that our club’s impact is deep-rooted within the community,” Gale said.

He further emphasised the club’s potential to create significant opportunities for young Tasmanians, pointing to the ongoing success of initiatives like the Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport, which has enrolled 55 students, alongside a notable increase in participation across the state since the club’s inception.

Membership data for the Devils community:

  • Nearly 110,000 members are currently based in Tasmania.
  • Approximately 20% of members were born in Tasmania but now reside globally.
  • 20% of the membership comprises individuals under 19 years of age, while 35% are under 29.
  • Women and girls make up close to 40% of the membership base, highlighting the club’s commitment to inclusivity.
