The Australian Martial Arts Academy has cemented its status as a premier institution following an international milestone, with master instructor Hakan Manav inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in New Jersey, USA.
Recognised for Outstanding Instructor in August 2026, Hakan joins his father, grandmaster Ridvan Manav, who received a Lifetime Achievement induction in 2015. This dual recognition marks the first time a father-son duo has entered the Taekwondo Hall of Fame, highlighting the enduring legacy of a family-run enterprise shaping Australian martial arts for over four decades.
Founded by grandmaster Ridvan in Marrickville in 1982, the business has expanded into a commercial network of Sydney schools delivering over 250 classes weekly. The institution’s excellence is further reinforced by its recognition as the Global Top Single Martial Arts School in the World for the sixteenth time, combining elite athletic development with robust grassroots community engagement across Sydney.
Reflecting on the milestone, Hakan Manav emphasised the values driving the organisation’s longevity.
“This is something I’m incredibly proud of, but what makes it especially meaningful is that it represents something much bigger than an individual achievement.”
“My father started the academy in Marrickville in 1982 and dedicated his life to martial arts, our students and our family.
“I’ve had the privilege of learning from him since I was young, and now to be recognised in the same Hall of Fame as him is something I will always be proud of.
“For us, martial arts has always been about family, respect, discipline, hard work and helping the next generation become better people.
“That’s the legacy I hope we can continue,” Manav said.
Grandmaster Ridvan Manav highlighted the generational continuity underpinning the academy’s success.
“When I received my Lifetime Achievement induction in 2015, I never imagined that one day I would see my son join me in the Hall of Fame.”
“I am extremely proud of Hakan. I have watched him grow from a young student into a champion, instructor and leader, but most importantly into a person who understands the values behind martial arts.
“The greatest legacy is not the trophies or awards. It is the people we have helped, the families we have been part of and the values we have passed from one generation to the next,” Manav added.
With continued leadership across generations, the Australian Martial Arts Academy maintains its benchmark position in combat sports education.
