Swimming Australia has announced an opportunity for experienced professionals to join its Board as Appointed Directors. With Australia’s most successful Olympic and Paralympic sport setting its sights on continued excellence at the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Games, the organisation is looking to bolster its leadership with two key appointments.

A Vision for Growth and Excellence

As the national governing body for swimming in Australia, Swimming Australia oversees nearly 80,000 registered members across 1,000 clubs, with over 5 million active swimmers nationwide. Guided by its purpose—Inspire Australia Through Swimming—the organisation is focused on enhancing its governance and strategic direction to sustain its dominance in the global arena.

“Our recent success at the Paris 2024 Games was a testament to our high-performance culture,” said Swimming Australia. “Now, as we prepare for future challenges and opportunities, we are looking for leaders who share our values of Courage, Unity, and Excellence to help steer the organization into its next era.”

The Role of the Appointed Directors

The Board of Directors, which consists of elected, appointed, and ex-officio members, plays a crucial role in shaping the sport’s future. To complement its existing leadership, Swimming Australia seeks two Appointed Directors with specific expertise to enhance governance capabilities and strategic oversight.

Key Areas of Expertise

  1. Risk Management & Compliance
    • Candidates with experience overseeing risk management frameworks, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity.
    • Strong understanding of corporate governance and best practices in managing organizational risks.
  2. Technology, Digital, and Customer Experience
    • Expertise in digital transformation, cybersecurity, IT innovation, and customer engagement.
    • A focus on leveraging technology to enhance stakeholder experiences and drive the sport’s growth.

Preferred Experience

While not mandatory, the following additional skills are highly regarded:

  • Knowledge of Sporting Organisations and/or Swimming – A deep understanding of the sports governance landscape.
  • Public and Not-for-Profit Sector Leadership – Experience in leading organisations within these sectors, with insights into funding models and strategic operations.

A Unique Leadership Opportunity

Successful candidates will serve a three-year term voluntarily, contributing to one of Australia’s most high-performing international sports organizations. To apply, candidates must provide a Director Identification Number (DIN) and be willing to undergo a police and working with children check.

Swimming Australia remains committed to diversity and equal opportunity, and it encourages women in sports governance to apply for leadership roles.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit an expression of interest, including a resume and cover letter, to [email protected] by March 2, 2025.
