Santos has signed on as the official oil and gas exploration and production partner of the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team and the Buildcorp Wallaroos for the next three years.

The deal will see the Santos logo displayed on the shorts of both teams as well as on the sleeves of the team polo shirts, with Australian Seven’s star, Charlotte Caslick, becoming an ambassador for the Australian organisation.

Rugby Australia chief commercial officer, Cam Murray, said he looks forward to working to build a successful partnership between Santos and the two sides.

“We’re proud to welcome Santos to the Rugby Australia family and it’s great to be bringing together two outstanding Australian brands,” Murray said.

“This partnership will be incredibly beneficial for our Australian Women’s Sevens and Wallaroos programs and the connections between the two brands run deep.

“Both pride themselves on their service to Australia and performance, tenacity and precision permeates everything they do.

“Today’s announcement is just the beginning of this partnership, and we are looking forward to working with Santos to build a long and successful relationship that benefits both organisations and the communities that we reach together,” he said.

Santos managing director and chief executive officer, Kevin Gallagher, said he is excited to work with both sides to further strengthen Australian women’s rugby.

“We are delighted to become a major supporter of the hugely successful Australian Women’s Sevens team and the Buildcorp Wallaroos,” Gallagher said.

“A proudly Australian company, Santos is a leading supplier of natural gas, a fuel for the future providing cleaner energy to improve the lives of people in Australia and Asia.

“For 65 years, Santos has been working in partnership with local communities, providing jobs and business opportunities, safely and sustainably developing Australia’s natural gas resources.

“We’re passionate about promoting women’s sport, recently providing additional investment to elevate the professional ranking of the Santos Women’s Tour Down Under and ensure all four stages of the cycling race are broadcast,” he said.

New Santos ambassador and Qantas Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens star player, Charlotte Caslick, said she’s happy and proud to represent an Australian company like Santos.

“As a proud Aussie, it’s great to be representing an Australian company that first started over 60 years ago in the Outback,” Caslick said.

“For Santos to be supporting the Aussie Sevens and the Wallaroos is a testament to the hard work both teams are putting in on the world stage and shows how far women’s rugby has come,” she said.

The partnership will be activated in time to support the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team push for back-to-back Olympic Gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and for the Buildcorp Wallaroos hoping to win the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
