Following the first official Commission meeting in Melbourne last week, Marina Go, the former independent director on the Netball Australia board, has been appointed the inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission for a three-year term.

Go, who is currently the Chair of Ovarian Cancer Australia and a non-executive director of Energy Australia, has more than 25 years of leadership experience within Australia’s sporting and business landscapes including  7-Eleven, Autosports Group, Pro-Pac and The Walkley Foundation, and was previously Chair of the Wests Tigers NRL club.

She is also Chair of the Advisory Board for the Centre For Media Transition at the University of Technology Sydney and childcare marketplace platform Juggle Street, and a director of PWC’s Diversity Advisory Board.

“I am honoured to be selected as the inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission, alongside a group of independent, strategic thinkers with the right skill sets to drive a world-class competition for Australia’s premier women’s league,” Go said.

“We had our first commission meeting this week at Netball HQ and it was wonderful to be back.

“It’s amazing to see the rate at which netball has advanced over the past six years – it’s an exciting time for netball.

“My fellow commissioners and I are looking forward to working closely with Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington, Netball Australia CEO and Suncorp Super Netball commissioner Marne Fechner, the Netball Australia board and the boards of the Suncorp Super Netball teams to continue to innovate the competition and accelerate its growth.”

Suncorp Super Netball CEO, Chris Symington, is delighted to have Go leading the Commission into the next exciting phase of the league.

“Marina brings high-level leadership experience across a diverse range of industries and we are all looking forward to working closely with her and all of our commissioners to take the league to the next level,” he said.

“We couldn’t be more satisfied with the calibre of people we have attracted to the Suncorp Super Netball Commission and believe we have an excellent mix of specialised skill-sets within that group to help achieve our vision of being the number one women’s sports league in the world.”

Other Suncorp Super Netball commissioners announced earlier this month were:

  • John O’Sullivan – Tourism Australia Managing Director
  • Catriona Larritt – Jetstar Airways Chief Customer Officer
  • Todd Deacon – Unscriptd Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer
  • Gabbi Stubbs – Veritas Insights Founder and Director
  • Marne Fechner – Netball Australia CEO

A final commissioner will be appointed by the Commission in the coming months.
