Youtuber KSI has officially acquired a minority stake in Dagenham & Redbridge. The acquisition, announced by the club on Tuesday, represents what the organisation describes as its most significant partnership to date, as it looks to leverage creator-led investment to ascend the English football pyramid.
The thirty-two-year-old, whose legal name is Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, joins a revamped ownership structure following the recent takeover by Happy Fan Group Ltd.
KSI will sit alongside former England and West Ham striker Andy Carroll as a key investor in the sixth-tier side. At thirty-seven years of age, Carroll has already integrated into the squad on a free transfer, providing a bridge between elite-level experience and the club’s grassroots foundations.
Commenting on his minority-stake acquisition, global digital powerhouse and entrepreneur, KSI, said: “I’m so excited to start this journey. It’s gonna be a rollercoaster for sure but I hope to bring Dagenham & Redbridge back to the glory days.”
“Reaching the Premier League would be a dream, and I believe it is one hundred per cent doable. I want you to know that I am fully committed to making sure Dagenham & Redbridge is a team that everyone will know worldwide,” KSI stated via the club’s official digital platform.
The entry of the high-profile YouTuber coincides with a major leadership transition at the club. Long-serving managing director, Stephen Thompson, is set to stand down from his role and his position on the board at the conclusion of March.
Thompson, who joined the management team in 1981 and was awarded an MBE in 2013, has been a pivotal figure for forty-five years. He will remain with the organisation as an honorary life president, ensuring his institutional knowledge remains accessible to the new owners.
“With the takeover by the Happy Fan Group, I feel it is the right time to step down and hand the reins to the new owners,” Thompson said.
He also noted that it has been a privilege to serve the club through its various iterations, including the merger in 1992 and the brief ascent to League One in 2010.
From a commercial perspective, the investment targets a total transformation of the club’s brand identity. KSI brings a massive global audience of over seventeen million subscribers to the club’s digital ecosystem. The strategic goal is to utilise this reach to secure international commercial partners and diversify revenue streams beyond traditional gate receipts.
Currently positioned thirteenth in the National League South with forty-nine points, the “Daggers” are looking to arrest a period of decline following their relegation from the fifth tier last season.
