The City of Moreton Bay and the Brisbane Bullets have formalised a new partnership aimed at strengthening local engagement, expanding basketball participation, and promoting the region as a key sporting destination ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The agreement will see the Bullets work with the council to activate the Moreton Bay Central Indoor Sports Centre (MBISC) a major facility within the growing sports precinct at Petrie and deliver a series of community programs designed to connect the club with residents and schools across the city.
Brisbane Bullets CEO, Malcolm Watts, described the partnership as a key part of the club’s community and growth strategy, aligning with the city’s development in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.
“This partnership signals an important step in our vision to expand the Bullets’ footprint and strengthen our ties with the City of Moreton Bay.”
“Moreton Bay is one of Australia’s fastest-growing cities and a vital hub for sport and innovation. Working together, we’ll create lasting programs and pathways that benefit both basketball and the wider community,” Watts said.
Local Activation and Youth Pathways
The partnership includes the launch of the Bullets to Bay School Engagement Program, which will focus on developing basketball skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting healthy, active lifestyles among young people. Open training sessions and local events are also planned as part of the initiative.
City of Moreton Bay, Mayor Peter Flannery, said the collaboration represents another step toward establishing the region as a hub for elite sport and community participation.
“We’ve been working closely with the Bullets over many years, and today I am delighted to see this initial short-term agreement open up even more conversations about our future together.”
“Not only does this support our local economy through more jobs, tourism and the like, but it provides multiple opportunities for our own sporting talents, from junior players to the more elite levels,” Mayor Flannery said.
Flannery added that the partnership complements the city’s growing portfolio of national sporting relationships, including the Dolphins NRL team, as part of its broader vision to attract and retain elite sporting organisations.
