University of Tasmania Signs Formal Partnership with Tasmania Football Club

The University of Tasmania has officially joined the Tasmania Football Club as its Official Higher Education Partner, formalising a collaborative relationship that has been developing across more than two years.

Announced in October 2026, the strategic alliance brings together two major Tasmanian institutions with aligned values and a shared commitment to regional development. The partnership focuses heavily on workforce development, education pathways, and integrating academic programs with elite sports management. This builds upon existing initiatives, including an accelerated university degree pathway launched for students in the Blundstone Tasmanian Academy of Leadership and Sport, offering graduates credits toward a Bachelor of Business.

Tasmania Football Club General Manager for Commercial and Partnerships James Creak emphasised the strategic importance of aligning with the premier tertiary institution in the region.

“We’re proud to have the University of Tasmania, our state’s premier tertiary education provider, as our Official Higher Education Partner,” Creak said.

The commercial arrangement is designed to cultivate talent pipelines extending well beyond the football field, targeting business, marketing, sports science, and events administration. University of Tasmania Executive Director for Global Marketing and Recruitment Michelle Weir highlighted the career opportunities created by the collaboration.

“There is an entire workforce behind an elite sporting organisation, and this partnership gives our students the opportunity to explore those careers and build connections to an industry that is growing here in Tasmania.

“Whether their future is in business, events, marketing, health, performance or another part of the industry, we want students to see that there are exciting career pathways connected to the game that go well beyond playing it.”

“Both the University and the Devils are deeply connected to communities across Tasmania. By working together, we have an opportunity to use education and sport to create pathways, build aspiration and contribute to communities across our state,” Weir said.

By formalising this partnership, both organisations aim to secure sustainable regional growth, ensuring local students and athletes can access premier educational and professional opportunities without leaving the state.
