European football governing body, UEFA, has started searching for a new broadcasting deal in the United States (US), with negotiations including NBC, ESPN, Amazon and more.
According to The New York Times, the governing body is looking for US$250 million (AUD$369 million), a US$100 million (AUD $147 million) increase from the current deal.
Sports promotion company, the Relevant Sports Group, have been announced as the managers of the process, ending a 25-year between Team Marketing and UEFA, with new deals for the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League expected to be signed before the start of the 2022/23 season.
According to Bloomberg, UEFA is expecting offers of up to US$2 billion (AUD$$2.9 billion) for a six-year deal, after the Champions League final received an average of 5.36 million viewers, a record for the competition’s coverage in the US.
Additionally, Sportico estimated UEFA broadcasting rights to be US$4 billion (AUD$5 billion) in value between 2024 and 2027, a US$1 billion (AUD$1.48 billion) increase from last year’s earnings.
