Tokyo 2020’s $3.1 Billion Sponsorship Portfolio Is Three Times More Than Any Previous Summer Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added another sponsor to its record-breaking $3.1bn portfolio, with JXTG Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation to serve as Supporting Partners of the Olympic Torch Relay and supply the gas for torches used at the games.

The total $3.1bn sponsorship revenue is almost three times more than any previous summer Games and doesn’t include IOC revenues from global partnerships with Japanese brands Toyota, Bridgestone and Panasonic under the TOP sponsorship program.

John Coates, the IOC’s coordination commission chief for Tokyo 2022, said that local sponsorship agreements have been signed with 62 brands, and described the revenues as “an amazing amount of money.”

Yoshiro Mori, President of Tokyo 2020, commented: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome JXTG as a Supporting Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.

“The company will provide the gas that will power the Olympic torch, and Tokyo 2020 will continue working to deliver a flame that will never be extinguished in the hearts of all the people across Japan.”

Katsuyuki Ota, President and Representative Director of JXTG, commented: “As a Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Supporting Partner, JXTG will implement activities utilizing its ENEOS branded service stations and further energize Japan.” ENEOS is the brand name for products manufactured and sold by JXTG group.

The games have since also added Google Japan as an official supporter.
