[mkdf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”#f55549″ background_color=””]H[/mkdf_dropcaps]ead coach and General Manager (GM) of the Houston Texans, Bill O’Brien has been fired following a 0-4 start and his controversial decision to trade DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals for David Johnson this off-season.

The Texans will be left without their first-round pick this year after they dealt Kenny Stills Laremy Tunsil to Miami last year.

A new GM was not immediately appointed, with assistant coach Romeo Crenel expected to take over on an interim basis.

O’Brien gathered a 100-52 record in his over six seasons. Despite having won the AFC South three of four years, the Texans have remained stagnant this postseason.

All hope is not yet lost for the Texans however, with 25-year old Deshaun Watson, having received a four-year, $222 million extension pre-season. A franchise quarterback is believed to play an essential role in the Texans’ recovery.

Prior to the 2017 draft, Cleveland Browns took Myles Garett #1 overall. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said: “If they pass on DeShaun Watson, they’re passing on Michael Jordan. I’m just telling you.”

Watson was traded by the Texans up to draft at spot #12. Patrick Mahomet was selected two spots ahead. Mitchell Trubisky, the first QB taken that year, lost his job.

After trading away two first-round picks, O’Brien paid Laremy Tunsil $92 million; O’Brien’s decision to gamble on one player did not come without scrutiny, in spite of him being an elite blindside protector. O’Brien’s offensive line has given up 16 sacks through four games, the most in the NFL.
