elbourne Storm CEO, Dave Donaghy has been caught in the middle of a battle between the Brisbane Broncos and the Melbourne Storm, after it was revealed he is the heavy favourite for the Broncos opening at CEO.

Channel 9 reporter, Ben Dobbin, reported Melbourne were threatening legal action if Brisbane continued to pursue Donaghy for their top job, with Donaghy’s contract with Melbourne restricting him from having formal discussions with any potential employer until January 31.

“It’s a two-horse race for who will be [Brisbane Broncos] CEO after Paul White leaves at the end of October,” Dobbin said.

“Dave Donaghy, the Melbourne Storm current CEO is the firm favourite.

“My understanding talking to people close to the Broncos today is that he interviewed exceptionally well and will be offered the job.

“Melbourne are furious with this.

“They are threatening legal action if this is the case.

“My understanding is Donaghy wants the job and will be offered it in the coming weeks,” he said.

Melbourne chairman, Matt Tripp, told the Courier Mail the club is prepared to take legal action if Brisbane continue with their pursuit of Donaghy before January 31 next year.

“We will be enforcing our contract with Dave and if the Broncos are up for a legal stoush, then tell them to get ready, I’m all for it,” Tripp told the Courier Mail.

The Mole reported NRL great, Ben Ikin, who was also reportedly in the running for the Broncos front-office role, is set to pull out of the race for the top position, leaving Donaghy as the “hot favourite”.
