Anfield, home ground of English soccer giants Liverpool, will host the English Super League’s Magic Weekend in May 2019.

The holy grail of soccer pitches will be turned into a rugby league field to host an entire round of fixtures from the 12-team premier rugby league competition over two days.

Newcastle United’s St. James’ Park has hosted the event since 2015 and has previously been played at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, as well as Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Super League chief executive, Robert Elstone, said: “I know Super League fans will have a great time not only at Anfield but in one of our country’s most vibrant and exciting cities.

“The place is special – it’s a perfect fit for the celebratory atmosphere of Magic.”

2019’s Magic Weekend will take place on 25th and 26th of May, with the highly anticipated grand final re-match between current champions Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves.
