Super Bowl LVIII ad slots nearly sold out despite USD$7 million pricetag

CBS has reported that ad slots for Super Bowl LVIII are nearly sold out, despite the event being more than three months away. The network’s spokesperson revealed that the majority of advertising inventory has been snapped up.

These highly sought-after ad slots come at a premium, with CBS reportedly seeking between USD$6.5 million and USD$7 million for each 30-second slot, according to insiders familiar with the negotiations. Typically, advertisers pay an average of USD$7 million for a 30-second commercial, as was the case for Super Bowl LVII, which aired on FOX.

Negotiations for Super Bowl ad slots often continue up until just hours before the game kicks off. Companies are eager to secure their spots early, knowing that Super Bowl ad slots are the most coveted in American sports due to its colossal viewership.

Super Bowl LVII averaged 115.1 million views across FOX’s various platforms, making it the second-most-viewed broadcast of all time, trailing only the Apollo 11 Moon landing, which drew an estimated 125-150 million viewers.

Eight of the 10 most-viewed broadcasts in American history are Super Bowl games, with the only exceptions being the Moon landing and President Richard Nixon’s resignation speech, which had 110.0 million viewers.

This year’s Super Bowl will have a family-centric version, as children’s television network Nickelodeon will also broadcast the game with different hosts and visual effects. This marks a historic first for the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LVIII will be played at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on February 11, 2024. Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles – the Super Bowl combatants last year – are currently at the shortest odds to win Super Bowl LVIII, followed by San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys.
