The Board of Racing SA has named Nick Bawden as its new Chief Executive Officer, starting February 1, 2025. After an extensive search, Bawden was chosen for his exceptional track record and deep understanding of the organisation’s vision.

Racing SA Chairman Rob Rorrison highlighted Bawden’s significant contributions over the past year:
“Nick has been instrumental in achieving critical milestones that align with our strategic goals. His leadership has positioned South Australia as a leader in the racing industry.”

Key Achievements
Under Bawden’s management, Racing SA has reached several notable milestones:

  • Negotiated a seven-year wagering sponsorship with SportsBet, adding $1 million in prize money for Group 1 races.
  • Implemented a horse population growth strategy, making South Australia the top-ranked state in Australia for field size.
  • Partnered with clubs to create a 10-year infrastructure plan and secured funding for essential projects.
  • Finalised a media rights deal with Racing.com, ensuring comprehensive coverage of South Australian racing both nationally and globally.

These achievements reflect Racing SA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.

Bawden expressed enthusiasm for his new role and a clear vision for the organisation: “I am excited to lead Racing SA and build on the great work of Vaughn Lynch. My focus is on enhancing the racing community and making participation accessible and appealing—whether through work, volunteering, training, riding, wagering, or ownership.

“Thoroughbred racing is central to South Australia’s culture, heritage, and economy. I look forward to creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for racing in the state.”

The Board acknowledged outgoing CEO Vaughn Lynch for his dedication and leadership. His efforts have left Racing SA well-positioned for continued success under Bawden’s leadership.

With Bawden at the helm, Racing SA aims to further its reputation as a resilient and innovative organisation. The focus will remain on sustainable growth, inclusivity, and enhancing the racing experience for all stakeholders.
