The Tasmanian Government has reinforced its commitment to community health and sports administration by doubling financial support through the latest round of the Active Industry Fund, making a substantial $4.8 million available to local sporting bodies.
Administered to strengthen peak administrative organisations and enhance governance standards across the state, the funding initiative aims to empower clubs and associations to deliver coordinated sport and active recreation activities. Applications for the funding round are officially open and will close on 14 October 2026.
Tasmanian Minister for Sport, Hon. Nick Duigan emphasised the broader strategic objectives of the funding injection, highlighting the operational role played by peak bodies in grassroots sports development.
“This program is also about helping more Tasmanians to participate and stay active.”
“Our peak organisations play a critical role in ensuring Tasmanians have access to safe, fun and inclusive sport and active recreation.
“Our Government is supporting coaches and officials and improving organisational governance and integrity.
“Grants from $80,000 to $240,000 will be available to peak organisations representing our State’s sporting and active recreation clubs and associations.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we are ensuring Tasmanians have access to community sport and recreation.
“That is at the heart of what these grants deliver,” Minister Duigan said.
Under the parameters of the current funding round, individual grants ranging from $80,000 to $240,000 will be distributed to eligible peak organisations representing the state’s sporting and active recreation clubs.
A core focus of the program centres on increasing female participation and retention rates, aligning directly with the strategic mandates outlined in the Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy.
Furthermore, the funding framework provides crucial financial backing to support coaches, officials, and organisational integrity initiatives.
The funding stream is broadly accessible across the sports ecosystem, remaining open to state sporting organisations, state disability sporting organisations, state active recreation providers, state sector service providers, and selected national sporting organisations.
By investing heavily in organisational capability and regional participation infrastructure, the Tasmanian Government aims to secure sustainable, long-term health and social outcomes across local communities.
