Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) has secured Australian natural gas company, Santos, on a four-year deal that will provide huge cash flow for the club moving forward.
The long-term partnership will see Santos become an elite sponsor of the QRU with the Santos logo on the top-back of the playing and training jerseys for the St.George Queensland Reds Super Rugby and Super W teams.
Santos will also be the naming rights sponsor for the QRU’s Rookies2Reds program and the Super 6 Schools competition, as they look to support the growth of Rugby for both boys and girls in Queensland from grassroots, into schools and through to the elite level.
QRU CEO, David Hanham, said: “This is the start of what will become a successful partnership with Santos, who is right behind our vision and strategy to invest in ensuring Queenslanders enjoy a lifelong connection with Rugby.
“This is a significant sponsorship between the Queensland Rugby Union and Santos over the next four years.
“Much like us, Santos has a large footprint across the state and it’s important we continue to invest across our Queensland communities.
“Santos recognises the potential in this team for the future following 10 Reds players recently re-committing to Queensland on long-term deals,” Hanham said.
Santos Managing Director and CEO, Kevin Gallagher, said the company was excited to support the QRU across their elite level and grassroots activities, building on its long association with the game in rural and regional Australia.
“Santos has been operating in Queensland for more than 50 years and is committed to making a positive social contribution to the communities where we operate,” Mr Gallagher said.
“We have enduring relationships with a number of rural and regional Rugby teams and competitions across the country and this is a fantastic opportunity to support grassroots sports programs that can have such positive impacts in local communities.
“QRU’s initiatives are aligned with our community investment objectives, promoting healthy living through sport, alleviating social isolation and supporting regional and Indigenous communities through education and engagement programs.”
The QRU also signed a two year deal with Brisbane-based car dealership, Westpoint Autos, this week, to deliver Rugby programs across Queensland.
