Perth pay millions to bring Manchester United to Australia

Western Australia has managed to lure Premier League icons, Manchester United, into a ten-day tour of Perth in 2019, which includes two matches at the newly built Optus stadium.

The two matches at Optus Stadium will be against Perth Glory and English Football League Championship contenders Leeds United.

West Australia Premier, Mark McGowan, is thrilled to have secured the English Football Club over other states, saying it will be worth the “millions of dollars” it is costing to bring them over to Australia ahead of the 2019 English Premier League.

“Of course, we would like to provide all the information but the problem with doing that is it would disadvantage WA commercially because we have to compete with other States,” Mr McGowan said.

Tourism Minister, Paul Papalia said, “serious money” was involved but justifiable.

“The Victorians would have loved to get this event,” he said.

Manchester United will bring their full squad and take part in open training sessions, a corporate golf day and clinics for children in between the July 13 and July 17 matches.
