Mayweather And Logan Paul Earn Huge Purses Despite Disappointing PPV Buys

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul have both confirmed their fight purses will be worth over millions of dollars despite the event drawing disappointing pre-order pay-per-view (PPV) buys.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, the advanced PPV numbers were “horrible” despite the PPV price being considerably cheaper than Mayweather’s previous fights.

Mayweather vs McGregor in 2017 drew 4.3 million buys for a total revenue of USD$370 million (AUD$478 million) and although Paul vs KSI 2’s PPV buys have not been released, promoter Eddie Hearn said it did better than the first event which drew in 1.2 million buys.

Reports have said Mayweather’s contract guarantees him 50% of the PPV buy revenue and Paul will net 10%.

Mayweather’s upfront fee for the fight is rumoured to be USD$10 million (AUD$12.9 million) while Paul is significantly lower at USD$250,000 (AUD$323,000).

Mayweather estimated he could potentially make USD$100 million (AUD$130 million) for the exhibition fight, a significant increase from his last exhibition fight against Japanese kickboxer, Tenshin Nasukawa, where he earned USD$9 million (AUD$11.6 million).

Paul estimated in March he could make as much as USD$20 million (AUD$25.9 million) for the event.

The highly anticipated match was contested on the 6 June at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida with the fight going the distance and resulting in no winner due to exhibition rules.
