Masters Final Round Draws 9.45 Million Viewers On CBS

The final round of this year’s Masters golf tournament drew in 9.45 million viewers on US network, CBS, an increase on the previous year’s numbers, but still ranking as the lowest traditional April slot since 1993, according to the Sports Business Journal.

These final round ratings are the highest for US golf this season, beating the same round of the PGA Tour’s Player Championship, which drew in almost seven million viewers on NBC, whilst also being the most-watched round of golf since the 2019 masters.

According to Sports Media Watch, the moment where Hideki Matsuyama won, becoming the first Japanese man to claim a major title, ranks as the sixth most-watched non-football sporting event since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The third round of the 2021 Masters drew in 5.18 million viewers, up 4% on the previous year’s equivalent.

ESPN’s second round coverage of the tournament pulled a 2.69 million viewership figure, down 2% from 2020, which was the only round of this year’s tournament that saw a decline, according to Sports Media Watch.

In comparison, the 2020 Masters, which were moved to November, notched 5.59 million viewers, making it the least-watched version of the tournament since data was first recorded in 1995.
