Mark Taylor has resigned from Cricket Australia board

Cricket Australia director, Mark Taylor, has resigned from the governing body’s board only days after chairman David Peever announced that he too would be stepping down.

Taylor, who has spent 14 years in the roll, told reporters today that serving on the board had taken its toll after 18 months of turmoil in the game.

“I don’t think I can give anymore, I’ve lost the energy,” he said.

“My next step, I thought as a CA director was to step up or step off the board.

“I had the opportunity at this time to put my name forward as chairman, or to sep off.

“That’s where I got to and I think I made the right move in the interest of Australian cricket to hopefully give another person an opportuntiy to give fresh ideas to this role.”

He said the findings from the Longstaff review were part of his decision, but not the sole factor – last year’s pay dispute and the relationships that fractured as a result also played their part.

Interim Cricket Australia chairman, Earl Eddings, admitted he had hoped Taylor would remain on the board.

“While we would like Mark to continue as a director on the board, we appreciate his reasons and have accepted his resignation,” Eddings said in a statement.

“Mark has given an enormous amount to Australian cricket over three decades as a player, captain and board member.”

“Mark has played a significant role in helping build and shape relationships within the cricket community, specifically with players past and present, and in his role as director has always worked collaboratively with key parties to put the interests of Australian cricket first.”

Cricket Australia must now fill two vacant positions on its board, less than two weeks after its AGM.
