Lamborghini Launches First Esports Team

Italian super car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini, has launched its first esports team, signing three sim drivers to the roster.

Drivers, Jordan Sherrat and Gianfranco Giglioli, will compete in the GT World Challenge Esports Sprint Series Europe, with the five-race season starting on 3 August, while Giorgio Simonini, will compete in the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge Esports Endurance Championship, which is also comprised of five races and starts on 16 April.

The roster will be supported by Squadra Corse, Lamborghini’s in-house racing team, and a host of staff members, including: a team principal, coach and engineers to offer their expertise in the development and analysis of telemetry data.

Commenting on sim racing, Lamborghini’s head of motorsport, Giorgio Sanna, said: “Sim racing is an important platform in today’s motorsport scene.”

“Video games were born to allow those who didn’t have opportunities for real-life racing to impersonate professional drivers.

“Now, after several decades of development in the industry, simulated racing is getting closer and closer to its real-life counterpart and now has nothing to envy from professional motorsport

The announcement of the new esports roster comes after Lamborghini hosted ‘The Real Race’ series in 2020 and 2021, with details of the third edition of the competition yet to be announced.
