A significant funding agreement has been secured between the Federal and Queensland State Governments, marking a crucial milestone in advancing infrastructure development for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The agreement includes project milestones and Commonwealth disbursements for key endeavours such as the Chandler Indoor Sports Centre and Precinct Works, enhancements to the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Sunshine Coast Stadium, Sunshine Coast Mountain Bike Centre, and the forthcoming Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre. These projects are designed to provide long-term, sustainable infrastructure that will support local communities and grassroots sports long after the Olympic flame has been extinguished.

With $935 million allocated across 16 distinct projects, this Federation Funding Agreement aims to create accessible, inclusive, and purpose-built sporting and community infrastructure. These developments are not just about meeting the immediate needs of the 2032 Games but are strategically designed to support grassroots sports by providing high-quality facilities that are sustainable and inclusive.

The Federal Government’s investment of up to $3.435 billion, including up to $2.5 billion for the Brisbane Arena project and $935 million for the 16 Minor Venues Program, underscores the commitment to infrastructure longevity. This investment ensures that the venues will serve the community’s needs for decades, supporting local sports programs, fostering community engagement, and promoting healthy lifestyles.

A key focus of this infrastructure initiative is sustainability and inclusivity, with construction targets that promote opportunities for women, First Nations people, and apprentices. These efforts aim to ensure that the benefits of the 2032 Games extend beyond the event itself, providing long-term economic and social benefits to the local communities.

Both the Federal and Queensland State governments will work together to ensure that this infrastructure is ready for the games and capable of supporting the community well into the future. By focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and long-term community needs, this initiative will ensure that the benefits of the 2032 Games are felt for many years to come, providing a strong foundation for the growth and development of local sports.
