Gymnastics Australia has appointed Alistair Edgar as its new Chief Executive Officer, transitioning from his previous role as the CEO of Gymnastics Victoria. Edgar brings extensive experience in business, sports management, gymnastics, and the public sector to his new position.
Gymnastics Australia President Sam Offord expressed enthusiasm for Edgar’s appointment, stating, “We are thrilled to have Alistair join us as CEO, especially at this exciting juncture for our sport. His extensive background in gymnastics, coupled with his strategic foresight from roles as a coach, event manager, State Board Director, and State CEO, makes him the perfect candidate to lead our sport into the future.”
Offord also acknowledged interim CEO Chris O’Brien, who admirably held the position for the past six months while also serving as the National Performance Director, preparing the Australian team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Looking ahead, Offord expressed the Board’s anticipation of collaborating with Edgar, Gymnastics Australia’s team, State and Territory Associations, and affiliated clubs to advance the sport’s growth.
Edgar, in response, affirmed his commitment to the role and the importance of close collaboration with State and Territory Associations and affiliated clubs to propel gymnastics forward. He highlighted the need for unity among gymnastics leaders in Australia, rallying them around a shared vision to unlock the sport’s full potential and create a positive impact nationwide.
Reflecting on his tenure at Gymnastics Victoria, Edgar expressed gratitude to the Gymnastics Victoria Board, staff, and members for their unwavering support.
Gymnastics Victoria Board Chair Bronwyn Gilmore praised Edgar’s collaborative approach in Victoria, noting his success in nurturing relationships and readiness for positive change. She viewed his appointment as a significant step for the sport and anticipated fruitful cooperation with Gymnastics Australia and colleagues from other States and Territories to realise their joint vision.
