Glasgow 2026 Announces Board of Directors to Lead the Commonwealth Games

The Glasgow 2026 Organising Company has unveiled its Board of Directors, a diverse and experienced team set to oversee the strategic planning and delivery of the 23rd Commonwealth Games. Chaired by George Black CBE, former Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council, the Board brings together leaders from sports, business, civil service, and accessibility advocacy to ensure the Games reflect the values of the Commonwealth.

Leadership and Vision

Appointed as Chair in October 2024, George Black praised the calibre of the Board: “This Board is an outstanding group of individuals who bring unparalleled expertise and a diverse mix of experiences to the Organising Company. Glasgow 2026 will be a Games like no other, and I have every faith that, alongside our fantastic Executive Team, we will collectively move the Games forward with passion and drive, placing athletes, fans, and the people of Glasgow and Scotland at the heart of our decision-making.”

The Board will navigate the unique challenge of delivering a privately funded, world-class multi-sport event on a condensed timeline.

Key Appointments

  • Ian Reid CBE, Chair of Commonwealth Games Scotland, will serve as Vice-Chair. Reid’s extensive experience includes senior roles at Glasgow 2014 and Birmingham 2022, providing invaluable insight into the complexities of hosting large-scale events.
  • Katie Sadleir CNZM, Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), and Mary Hardy, CGF Audit and Risk Committee Chair and Board Observer, bring continuity of strategic oversight from the CGF.
  • Jon Doig OBE, Chief Executive of Commonwealth Games Scotland, joins as a critical voice in ensuring alignment with Scottish sporting objectives.

The Non-Executive Directors bring a wealth of unique perspectives, including:

  • Kieron Achara MBE: Former professional basketball player and representative of Team GB and Team Scotland, offering a voice for athletes.

  • Theresa Shearer: Chief Executive of Enable, focusing on community impact.
  • Jamie Grant: Managing Director of Corporate Banking at Barclays, supporting financial strategy.
  • Fiona Taylor QPM: Former Deputy Chief Constable of Police Scotland, contributing to event security.
  • David Grady: Former Chief Financial Officer for Birmingham 2022, lending financial expertise.
  • Manish Joshi: Non-Executive Director at the Scottish Government, ensuring alignment with national priorities.
