Formula E To Add Four New Races To 2021-22 Calendar

The Formula E calendar could see the addition of four new races following two consecutive seasons of COVID-19 pandemic disruption, with Seoul and Jakarta two venues already confirmed, according to Autosport reports.

It is rumoured that both Vancouver and Eindhoven could potentially be the final two destinations selected, with both receiving support from respective councils and national governments for E-Prix events.

According to SportsBusiness, Formula E was unable to confirm the new calendar additions, with the final line up to be submitted to the International Automobile Federation’s (IAF) World Motor Sport Council in July this year.

Vancouver is looking for a three-year deal, with the first of the proposed races to take place in July 2022, whilst Formula Eindhoven recently sent a letter of Formula E chief executive, Jamie Reigle.

Speaking on the letter, Reigle said there is potential for this to eventuate, but nothing is written in stone yet.

“That project, we’ve been closely engaged with,” Reigle said.

“It makes a lot of sense for us as a venue, there’s some real attraction there.

“Until anything [is] signed, and I don’t mean it to diminish that letter in any way, but political support and governmental support and engagement is a prerequisite for any of our races,” he said.

This calendar year will be jam-packed for Formula E, with a series of double-header events meaning there will be 15 races in total, across eight cities.
