Dallas Cowboys open high tech sports therapy complex

America’s National Football League’s (NFL) Dallas Cowboys have launched a community health and wellbeing facility as part of a partnership with healthcare provider Baylor Scott and White Health, and a local schooling district.

The Sports Therapy and Research complex is situated on the Star in Frisco campus in Texas, the official headquarters of the Cowboys franchise. The 300,000sq ft facility has been built not only to provide healthcare for Cowboys players and staff, but also for recreational and professional athletes, as well as providing an opportunity for visitors to learn about the science of athleticism.

The complex, designed by Chicago architects Perkins and Will, includes a strength-training room, basketball courts and a retractable dome that can be used either as an indoor or outdoor field. The walls are see-through in order to give visitors and spectators the chance to observe the rehabilitation process.

Ron Stelmarski, principal designer at Perkins and Will, said: “We want to showcase the link between active lifestyles and physical health so that every visitor leaves feeling more informed and inspired.

“Wellness education and inspiration, coupled with a holistic approach to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, promote the health and well-being of a community. This is a shining example of a new kind of architecture that supports the improvement of population health through physical fitness.”

“Baylor Scott & White Health is that world-class organization we envisioned working with when we knew we wanted to bring a medical provider to The Star,” said Jerry Jones Jr., Dallas Cowboys chief sales and marketing officer.

“We’re excited for this one-of-a-kind facility to begin to offer advanced care for sports medicine and orthopaedics, as well as nutrition and healthy living to the Dallas Cowboys, the Frisco community and beyond.”
