Former Queensland Cricket Chairman of Selectors and current Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Cricket, Max Walters, has today announced his intention to step down.

Originally signing a three-year contract as CEO in 2016, Walters will not be seeking an extension on his current three-year contract that is due to conclude in October, instead, he will be granted an early release to finish up this Friday, June 7.

Walters has overseen a period of stability, growth and financial sustainability at QC during his tenure, including the development of QC’s current five-year strategy; and the recent positive announcements of upgrades to the Gabba, Brisbane’s hosting of the opening Test of the 2021 Ashes series, and Federal Government funding towards the National Cricket Campus.

QC has also enjoyed a period of on-field success under Walters’ leadership, including Sheffield Shield and Women’s Big Bash League titles in 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively.

Mr. Walters thanked QC’s staff, volunteers, clubs and stakeholders who have contributed to cricket’s growth and success during his term.

“The past three years working at Queensland Cricket have been extremely rewarding and enjoyable.

“I originally committed to a three-year contract at QC, and with that period nearing its conclusion, now is the right time for me to move on,” he said.

QC Chairman, Judge Sal Vasta, thanked Walters for his contribution and dedication to cricket in Queensland.

“Max Walters returned to Queensland Cricket in 2016 with the objective to make QC the State’s leading sporting organisation and to ensure that our strategy revolved around delivering outstanding life experiences for Queensland communities anywhere, anytime.

“He has delivered in spades.

“Our strategic plan is the envy of other sporting organisations and clearly allows fans, sponsors and the Queensland Cricket family at large to see and understand our priorities,” he said.

“Max has been front and centre over the past three years and leaves QC well positioned to make even greater strides in the future.”
