The 2023 Australian Open has seen a surge in digital viewership this year as fans tuned in to watch their favourite players compete on Discovery+ and Eurosport streaming services.

According to the latest data, European digital audiences for the Grand Slam event rose by almost a third across both platforms, with streaming viewership up by double digits in key markets, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.

Denmark and Norway also experienced triple-digit growth for Australian Open coverage, proving that the tournament’s popularity extends far beyond the traditional tennis-loving nations.

On the linear side, Eurosport’s primary channel saw an 84 per cent audience increase in Poland and 39 per cent in the Netherlands, further cementing the tournament’s appeal across the continent.

Eurosport’s secondary linear channel saw a 16 per cent growth during the 2023 tournament, signalling that fans were eager to catch every moment of the action.

The tournament’s success on streaming platforms highlights the growing trend of digital consumption among sports fans, as well as the importance of making the tournament accessible to audiences beyond the traditional broadcast channels.

In recent weeks the Australian Open has also announced a number of partnerships, including, Somersby, Chubb and Kia.
