ASC Launches “The Park” – A Virtual Innovation Hub Driving Sport-Tech Collaboration Across Australia

image

The Park, launched by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), a virtual innovation hub designed to bring together technology-driven companies and the sports sector to solve critical challenges and unlock system-wide value.

This initiative positions Australia at the forefront of sport-tech collaboration by tackling projects that extend beyond individual disciplines and drive impact across multiple sports.

At its core, The Park is built around five foundational challenges:

  • Harnessing Data, AI and Machine Learning – advancing governance, tools, and integration to generate meaningful value across the sector.
  • Next-Generation Wearables – enabling real-time monitoring of human performance and delivering actionable insights.
  • Digital Twin Technologies – developing simulations to enhance decision-making, strategy, and performance outcomes.
  • Brain Performance Innovation – supporting ethical approaches to performance, assessment, treatment and Return to Play (RTP) protocols.
  • Environmental Sustainability in Sport – driving innovation that reduces the sector’s environmental impact.

The Park will run a six-month, co-designed program where selected technology firms collaborate with national sporting organisations (NSO/Ds) and the ASC to accelerate solutions from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to TRL 8+. Upon completion, opportunities will exist for further collaboration, procurement and the deployment of proven technologies at scale.

A defining principle of The Park is that it will only pursue projects bigger than any single sport. While many NSO/Ds invest in research and development focused on their specific discipline or immediate Olympic and Paralympic cycles, the ASC has the scale and scope to think broader. Its mandate is to develop innovations, interventions and platforms that provide long-term value across multiple sports and domains, ensuring outcomes that benefit both elite performance and community participation.

Expected results from The Park include cross-sport innovations embedded into training and competition, measurable improvements in efficiency and productivity, enhanced athlete performance on the global stage, and new commercial opportunities for sporting organisations. Importantly, sustainability is also a key focus, with projects expected to deliver tangible environmental benefits.

Aligned with the National Sports Research Agenda, ASC Corporate Plan, and the Play Well and Win Well strategies, The Park represents a bold step in shaping the future of Australian sport. By fostering collaboration between technology firms and sporting bodies, it has the potential to revolutionise athlete preparation, fan engagement, and organisational capability while reinforcing Australia’s global sporting competitiveness.
