American Football Australia Partners with PlayHQ to Launch Official Mobile App and Digital Platform

American Football Australia (AFA), the national governing body recognised by the Australian Sports Commission and the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), has announced the launch of its official mobile application powered by sports software provider PlayHQ.

Available free of charge across both iOS and Android platforms, the central digital hub streamlines competition management, participant registrations, live scoring, and fixture tracking for players, coaches, parents, and supporters involved in both tackle and flag football disciplines nationwide.

The deployment integrates AFA’s affiliated state associations and local clubs onto PlayHQ’s cloud-based ecosystem, unifying administrative operations and participant data across its growing footprint.

The technology rollout provides AFA with centralised operational data to track participation metrics and map high-performance pathways, while drastically reducing administrative friction for grassroots volunteers and member clubs managing team rosters, schedule updates, and digital payments.

AFA chief executive officer, Wade Kelly, emphasised the importance of adopting a centralised digital platform to capture domestic growth across all levels of the sport.

“Moving AFA onto PlayHQ gives players and parents one place for their season, and it gives us better data to plan the growth of the sport.”

“We encourage everyone involved in the game to download the app and follow their team,” Kelly said.

By partnering with PlayHQ—which currently services major sporting bodies including Cricket Australia, Netball Australia, Basketball Australia, and the Australian Football League, American Football Australia establishes a modernised digital infrastructure to support long-term participation growth, community engagement, and commercial development across its domestic football ecosystem.
