A Successful Asian Games Sees Indonesia Submit 2032 Olympics bid

A successful 2018 Asian Games has prompted Indonesia to submit an official bid to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

According to the country’s national news agency Antara News, Indonesia’s ambassador to Switzerland Muliaman D Hadad has handed over a letter to International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach signed by Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo.

“The IOC has recognised Indonesia’s capability while organizing the 2018 Asian Games and Para Games that were successful,” Hadad said.

“I think this is quite a strong foundation.”

India will be a strong competitor having already expressed interest in staging the Olympics in 13 years’ time, as have Australia and Germany.

Should Indonesia secure the hosting rights to the Olympics, it would become the fourth Asian country to do so, and Bach has previously said that the country could host a “very successful” Games.

“Here in Indonesia there is a great combination of friendliness and efficiency and this is what the Games are about,” Bach said during the Asian Games in August.

“The Asian Games build a very solid foundation for such a candidature.”

The hosts of the next three Summer Olympics have already been determined, with Tokyo set to host the 2020 Games, followed by Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028.
