The Australian Institute of Sport has acquired two Surround Multi-Sports Simulators from Sports Simulator, an investment in technology aimed at enhancing both high-performance training and broad community engagement.
The simulators are an immersive, 270-degree system utilising high-definition projection and high-speed camera technology to replicate realistic stadium environments across a wide variety of sports, including cricket, soccer, rugby, and Australian Rules.
For elite athletes, the technology provides a consistent, measurable training environment crucial for competitive advantage. The systems allow athletes to sharpen tactical understanding, practise under match-like pressure, and work on technique across specific disciplines—from kicking accuracy in Australian Rules to finishing drills in soccer.
This approach reinforces Australia’s commitment to science and technology as key underpinnings of its international sporting success, particularly as the nation prepares for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Furthermore, the acquisition supports the AIS’s mandate to increase participation in sport. The simulators are intended to serve as a versatile attraction for school groups, community visitors, and talent-development programmes, supporting the ASC’s goal of involving more Australians in sport.
The investment is consistent with the ASC’s role as the federal agency responsible for investing over AUD145 million annually into high-performance sporting organisations.
The AIS continually explores new frontiers in performance technology, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and major infrastructure projects.
The adoption of this multi-sports simulation technology positions the AIS to deliver both advanced, measurable training outcomes for elite athletes and an engaging experience for the community, ensuring the AIS remains a global leader in high-performance sport system development.
