Esports Charts, one of the leading analytics platforms in global esports, has launched a new Media Value metric, a tool designed to measure the sponsorship potential of tournaments across thousands of events.
The metric, now available free of charge, marks a major step toward transparency in a fast-evolving and highly commercialized industry.
The Media Value calculation assesses the market cost of a standard 1% on-screen banner displayed throughout a tournament broadcast. It integrates factors such as viewership numbers, broadcast length, regional advertising rates, language coverage, and logo visibility to provide a consistent benchmark for sponsorship worth.
Describing the initiative on how important it is for the industry, product manager at Esports Charts, Viktor Proniakin, said: “Making Media Value publicly accessible is a big step for esports transparency. For the first time, anyone can quickly see a clear, comparable benchmark for tournament sponsorship potential across regions.”
To illustrate the metric’s impact, Esports Charts highlighted the International 2024 Dota 2 championship, which achieved a Media Value of more than USD23 million (AUD34 million) across 23 language streams. Spanish-language coverage alone accounted for over USD183,000 million (AUD276 million) in Media Value, showcasing the commercial reach of localised esports broadcasts.A
In September, the platform partnered with betting brand GG.BET to launch the Esports Map, an interactive tool tracking the popularity of tournaments worldwide. It has also secured roles as the official viewership analytics partner for StarLadder StarSeries Season 19 (Counter-Strike 2) and entered into a data partnership with the online game GeoGuesser, providing analytics for upcoming competitions.
These developments reinforce Esports Charts’ positioning as a central data hub for stakeholders navigating the esports economy. By providing a clear framework for measuring sponsorship returns, the Media Value metric offers brands, rights holders and investors a transparent reference point to guide decision-making.
