Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports is witnessing success in digital audience engagement, revealing statistics for its coverage of the Australian Open on Discovery+ and the Eurosport app.

During the first eight days of the first tennis Grand Slam of 2024, Discovery+ has experienced an outstanding 13 percent year-over-year increase in audiences across the 10 markets providing live coverage. The total minutes watched have surged impressively by 17 percent.

Double-digit growth has been a standout feature, with significant audience increases recorded in Finland (45 percent), Denmark (26 percent), and Germany (24 percent).

The Eurosport app has seen heightened live match consumption in key markets, with a 25 percent rise in Hungary and a solid 13 percent increase in France.

Digital platforms such as Eurosport’s dedicated tennis YouTube channel and Instagram have also witnessed substantial growth. Video views on the YouTube channel have doubled during the first week of the Australian Open, while Instagram has reported double the video views and increased engagement compared to the previous year.

This substantial jump in digital engagement extends beyond the live matches, with Eurosport.com recording a 17 percent increase in unique users for general tennis content. Free video minutes watched on the platform have seen an impressive 49 percent surge.

As the semi-final stage approaches, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports is optimistic about maintaining these positive trends.

With several prominent players advancing to the latter stages – including US Open winner Coco Gauff’s showdown with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka headlining the women’s semis and Jannik Sinner taking on 10-time champ Novak Djokovic in the standout men’s clash – the digital platforms are poised to continue delivering thrilling content and captivating experiences to tennis enthusiasts globally.
