Post-World Cup Momentum Drives Premier League US Viewership to Record Highs

Premier League broadcast audiences in the United States have reached record levels following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, data from Nielsen Sports highlighting a 30 percent increase in overall viewing figures when incorporating Spanish-language broadcasts.

The surge demonstrates a significant expansion of football fandom across North America, driven by heightened consumer engagement among younger, diverse demographics following the international tournament.

According to Nielsen Sports’ market intelligence platform Nielsen Fan Insights (NFI), Premier League viewership among US fans aged 18–34 has risen by 20 per cent so far this season. Linear network coverage across NBC and USA Network recorded a 3 per cent baseline increase, with regular match broadcasts averaging over 500,000 viewers.

Standalone viewership on USA Network experienced an 8 per cent expansion. Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a primary commercial broadcast draw, featuring in three of the top six most-watched fixtures this season within NBC’s Saturday 12:30 PM ET programming window.

The clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United secured the highest domestic audience of the season to date, drawing 1.01 million viewers, followed by Brentford vs. Tottenham (#2) and Tottenham vs. Everton (#6).

Commenting on the implications for European clubs and rights holders capitalising on North American market expansion, global general manager at Nielsen Sports, Jon Stainer, said: “The World Cup served as a powerful catalyst, expanding the Premier League’s footprint across a far broader demographic in the US.”

“Our data shows that fandom is not only reaching record highs, but it is also expanding rapidly among younger, diverse audiences and carrying over into major domestic and international leagues.

“As Premier League viewership continues to climb on NBC and USA Network, Premier League clubs are presented with an unprecedented opportunity to deepen fan engagement, build lasting loyalties, and capitalise on the rapid momentum of soccer across North America,” Stainer said.

The uplift directly correlates with macro-level data tracking post-World Cup fan conversion in the United States. General interest in the World Cup peaked at 87 million fans—representing 37 per cent of the total US population and reflecting a 38 per cent expansion since January 2026.

This momentum has elevated consumer tracking metrics across major football properties between January and July 2026, including overall interest in football (+34%), the Premier League (+20%), and Major League Soccer (+23%).
