Unrivaled Basketball Smashes Attendance Records in Philadelphia

Unrivaled, the professional 3×3 women’s basketball league, has silenced financial skeptics by setting a historic attendance record during its inaugural tour stop in Philadelphia.

Last 30 January 2026, a sold-out doubleheader at Xfinity Mobile Arena drew 21,490 fans, officially becoming the highest-attended regular-season professional women’s basketball game in history.

The reason behind the Unrivaled tour’s success lies in tapping into high-demand basketball markets currently underserved by the WNBA.

By moving beyond its home base in Miami, the league proved its “highlight-driven” social strategy translates into massive ticket and merchandise sales. Despite early-season criticism regarding linear TV viewership, which faced heavy competition from the NFL and college football, the Philadelphia event generated over USD2 million (AUD2.8 million) in total revenue in a single night.

Commenting on the record breaker, early investor and former president of TNT Sports, David Levy, said: “I’m about the facts. The facts are every single other metric is up.”

“To all of a sudden come out and go, ‘The league is dead’—no, it’s shocking to me. The quality of play, the names on the back of the jerseys… the social strategy is amazing,” Levy said.

Expressing his enthusiasm,  Unrivaled president, Alex Bazzell, said: “When we launched, we never thought we’d amass this interest level this early.”

“It was always in the blueprint that we could sell these venues out… After this, tour stops are even more engrained in our DNA,” Bazzell noted.

Record-Breaking Metrics and Commercial Growth

The Philadelphia stop surpassed the previous regular-season record of 20,711 set by Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever in 2024.

The organisation is on track to eclipse USD40 million (AUD57 million) in revenue this season, a 48% increase over last year’s USD27 million (AUD38 million.)

In-venue merchandise sales in Philadelphia topped USD400,000 (AUD576,360), contributing to a broader 54% rise in merch sales compared to the same period last season.

While broadcast ratings saw a temporary dip, social media impressions and engagement metrics have risen by double digits, reinforcing the league’s appeal to younger demographics.

Founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, Unrivaled operates on a unique model where athletes are majority shareholders.

The league offers the highest average salaries in women’s professional sports reported at USD222,222,  plus equity stakes, providing a domestic alternative to playing overseas during the WNBA off-season.

The 2026 season features eight teams, up from six, including newcomers Breeze BC and Hive BC. The Philly doubleheader featured a 47-point performance by Marina Mabrey, validating Levy’s claim that the “product on the floor” is elite.
